Valéry was born on August 4th 1969 in Paris. His parents being French diplomats, he travelled the world with them: Panama, Brazil, India, the Philippines and Belgium.
Valéry studied Management and Management Control in France at the Paris Dauphine University and went to Singapore in 1993. There, a 16-month contract turned into a lifelong partnership with a company now known as Engie. We got married in 1996. After 5 years in Singapore, we moved to New York, in the United States. Our daughters Mathilde and Clarisse were born there. We left NY for Paris in 2002. Our son Charles was born in 2004 and we moved to Barcelona, Spain in 2005. In 2009 we moved North to Brussels, Belgium. Valéry joined the Paris head office in 2014.
After months of worrying about leg cramps, Valéry was diagnosed with ALS in June 2015. We moved back to Brussels which felt more like home in December 2015.
Valéry was a patient of the UCL Saint Luc in Brussels. He had a rare type of ALS since it was coupled with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD). FTD affects the frontal part of the brain which causes deterioration in behavior, personality and difficulty with communication.
Valéry lost his battle to ALS on August 17th, 2016: he was 47 years old. The photos show what a dedicated man Valéry has been throughout his life: dedicated to his family and friends, to his work, to any sport involving speed and travelling.
